The brand name of Comcast Xfinity was introduced in 2010 for the phone and Internet, and TV service provided by Comcast communications. Currently, Xfinity is the largest Internet service provider in the US. It is also the most used broadband service provider in the country. Currently, Comcast Internet is available in around 39 states. In most of the areas where Comcast services are operational, the connectivity is provided using a cable connection. This technology allows fast upload speeds but slow download speeds. Furthermore, data gap at 1.2 TB data in most service areas. Comcast has not restricted itself only to offering Internet connections. It also offers phone and TV services under the brand name of Xfinity as well as bundle packages which are available at discounted rates. Along with the above-mentioned services, Comcast also sells home security services as well as wireless services of Xfinity.
Benefits of opting for the bundle options
- If you want to pay one bill for your cable TV, Internet, and home security
- Use equipment of a single company to maximize compatibility
- You are an existing Xfinity customer and can avail of discounts on bundled services.
When is the bundle package not an option?
- If you wish for a video doorbell. This option is not yet available with Xfinity.
- You are not a pre-existing Xfinity customer. Thus, you will not be able to avail of the home discounts and other services integration.
Since the download speed of Xfinity is much higher than the upload speed, it may not be the perfect option for those working from home or those who have to actively engage in video conferencing, etc. Furthermore, the 1.2 TB data cap does not help users either.
The rate of Xfinity also depends on whether you have opted for the No contract deal, agreement, the services you are looking to opt for, whether you will rent the modem from Xfinity or not, etc.

Availability of the Xfinity Internet
In most of the regions of the US, Xfinity is available. However, it is currently not available in Hawaii, Montana, Iowa, Alaska, Nebraska, North Dakota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Oklahoma. Even though Xfinity Internet does serve in these locations, it is always best to call up the customer service section and find out if they are serviceable in the specific area where you are residing.
The reason there is such a strong contrast between the download and upload speed is that the Internet provided by Xfinity relies on a hybrid fiber-coaxial cable network. Hybrid fiber cables offer much higher speeds compared to DSL, cable, or satellite networks. However, the nature of the connection is pretty asymmetrical. This is why the download speed is always a lot more than the upload speed.
Most often we pay more attention to the speed of downloads because they have a direct effect on listening to music on streaming shows, watching movies, etc. However, if you are involved in the work from the home scenario or online schooling, you will have to go for a plan that offers better download speeds. With the Gigabit pro plan of Xfinity, you can get a fiber-to-home option. Unfortunately, this plan is only available in selected regions right now. However, Xfinity is looking to expand the existing cable network to achieve asymmetrical speeds.
