The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was established by the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006. (FSS Act). This administration body oversees food organizations in India and ensures that they adhere to the guidelines established by the government. Their job is to ensure that the food is pure and adheres to the predetermined standards. It is their responsibility to dispose of any unsuitable food items. This organization is in charge of recruiting and licensing FBOs (Food and Business Operators) in India. It also establishes the standards and guidelines for conducting business in India. FSSAI registration is critical.

FSSAI Advantages:

Individuals are becoming more conscious of their eating habits as a result of increased awareness, globalization, and mechanical progress. Indeed, COVID-19 has altered the food preferences of some people who are eager to fight the pandemic by receiving a more adjusted and nutritious eating routine to improve immunity. Similarly, Indian food laws are evolving in accordance with global food laws/guidelines through the modification of various guidelines based on the changing situation. The Food Standard and Safety Act of 2006 (“the Act”) is also progressing and changing in accordance with the “One Nation, One Food Law” initiative.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), established under the Act, is now in charge of inspecting food handling standards as well as overseeing the entire food inventory network. With this command, the FSSAI has taken several steps toward easing the registration and authorization process.

Another step in that direction is the replacement of the current online application framework, such as Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS), to provide licensing and enrollment through an updated, progressed, controlled, improved, and created open-source stage called Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS).

In June 2020, it was first made available in the states/UTs of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Gujarat, Goa, Odisha, Manipur, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Ladakh. The FSSAI is currently preparing to launch the second round of FoSCoS in the additional 27 states/UTs on November 1st, 2020. As a result, the FLRS gateway has been disabled with immediate effect. The 21st of October, 2020. focus is a more user-friendly and successful IT stage that attempts to connect Food Business Operators (FBOs), Designated Officers (DOs), and Food Safety Officers (FSOs).

Food Safety Compliance through Regular Inspection and Sampling (FoSCoRIS), Food Safety Connect-Complaints Management System, Online Annual Return Platform, Food Import Clearing System (FICS), Indian Food Laboratory Network (InFoLNet), Audit Management System (AMS), Food Safety Tract.

Change the current FLRS, which is merely a licensing stage, to a focal sanitation consistency administrative stage.

Work with a problem-free and simple-to-use IT stage to connect Food Business Operators and Food authorities.

Assemble a truly advanced coordinated application that is equipped for higher client traffic and has the potential for future updates and functionalities in order to achieve interoperability with other applications.

Improve client application execution and make application interaction more straightforward and proficient to advance the ease of collaboration among FBOs.

Reduce actual documentation to a bare minimum and smooth out business measurement streams for FBOs for online applications.

Achieve and empower the application to have a standardized item approach for producers rather than a book box approach.

Allow the application to seed business-specific subtleties such as CIN No., PAN No., and GST No. to ensure viable profiling and approval of FBOs.

The FSSAI anticipates that FoSCoS will provide a distinct advantage in the implementation and enforcement of food laws in India. To achieve the Swastha Bharath Mission’s goal, it is critical to raise awareness among Food Business Operators and the general public.
